RED LION (VE DAY COMMEMORATIVE) BEER FESTIVAL
Aldershot, SU 874 500

Saturday 6 May 1995

Dave John had established ‘The Red’ as Aldershot’s premier real ale pub and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of VE Day put on a celebratory beer festival featuring some of the special commemorative brews produced.
We were very fortunate as this was one of the few such beer festivals held despite the importance of the anniversary; a point highlighted by the distance some of the other drinkers had travelled to attend. One group from Lancashire had travelled on to Aldershot after attending a festival in East Anglia on the Friday. The only real surprise was that there were so few there, probably less than 20 all Saturday afternoon.
It was a very pleasant weekend and with no cooling in the garden marquee the beers were a little warm.
