Well, what a surprise! Apart from the expected poor start at the
Greene King tie, not only were there no punctures and no rain but
also the beer quality and choice were excellent. The Prince of Wales
was it’s good consistent self, The Squirrel no longer seemed to chill
the real like lager and The Old Ford was back on form. All very
welcome after last weeks trials and tribulations and all the better
for debunking PV’s negativity about the choice of Frimley Green and
North Camp.

Comment
Advertised as The Old Wheatsheaf & Village Restaurant, it is a large
pub on the busy Frimley to Frimley Green road. It has one large main
bar, a separate restaurant with it’s own outside eating area and a
patio for smokers. It also has six real ales on draught, a fact we
only learnt as we were leaving. On entering the bar you only see
three hand pumps and without a prominent list some thought that was
all you got. Never mind, the ones we missed were only more Greene
King beers!

Sitting inside to avoid the smokers you appreciate what a sea change
the ban has brought about. Usual good selection of guest beers
alongside the regulars. But as it was a swift visit we only had time
for a couple each.

An Ember Inn, it followed that chains policy of stocking some unusual
guest beers. Once you get over the restaurant feel a pleasant place
to have a couple of beers.

Now under the stewardship of Paul, ex manager of The Rose and
Thistle. The Sharp’s Doombar was excellent, as were the M&S Jaffa
Cakes left on the bar. They very quickly retrieved by Paul.
