Well, back to what is turning out to be normal for this ‘summer’.
Rain and punctures. Not too far this week; a start at The Barley Mow
at The Sands. Despite the rain most of us made it there by 8.30 pm
but where was KOC? With no reply on his mobile, a call home elicited
he had left, so where was he? Moving on to The Jolly Farmer at
Runfold KOC suddenly turned up. For some reason, which he tried to
explain but which the rest of us failed to understand, he had gone to
The Good Intent at Puttenham. This is the pub we had decided to
forego during this years evening rides as we had already recently
covered it. Leaving The Crown it was time for PV to get this weeks
puncture and walk back to The Garden Gate.

The surreal experience of no smoking pubs continued with the pub now
only smelling of chip fat. The new Hogs Back session beer, HBB, was
on and tasting rather nice.

Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Hogs Back HBB 3.7 £2.70 3.5 Rather nice
Sharp’s Doombar 4.0 £2.75 3.5 Nicer than at the ‘Red’

Good Intent - Puttenham - SU 871 475

Busy with the fish and chips evening. KOC did not note the other
beers available.

Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Sharp’s Cornish Coaster 3.6 £2.80 4 Very nice starter pint

Jolly Farmer - Runfold - SU 871 475

Comment
The pub was quiet by the time we arrived; the lights were out on the
restaurant side and there were just a few people in the rear bar. The
Jennings *bleep*er Hoop was a very nice strong, golden bitter beer that
went down extremely well.

Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Jennings *bleep*er Hoop 4.6 £2.80 4 Very nice
Shepherd & Neame Spitfire 4.5 £2.80 3.5 Good
Fuller’s London Pride 4.1 £2.80 Not tried
Greene King IPA 3.6 £2.60 Not tried
Courage Best 4.0 £2.50 Not tried

Comment
Pub seemed to be operating a one out, one in system as all the
previous customers left as we arrived. The landlord reported that
custom had been hit hard by the smoking ban and after two years at
the pub had decided to leave. This is very disappointing as he keeps
a very good pint of beer, with both the Chiswick and London Pride in
fine form. Prices not to bad for a Fuller’s tie either.

Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Fuller’s Chiswick 3.9 £2.60 4 Very nice
Fuller’s London Pride 4.1 £2.80 4 Very nice

Garden Gate - Aldershot - SU 845 500

Andy and Kim are settling in and enjoying running the pub. They
report that Foster’s lager is the biggest seller but with IPA not far
behind. The real is currently top spilled and, in the hope of even
better quality, Andy is thinking of reintroducing a stilage in the
cellar.
Brewer Beer % Price Mark Comment
Greene King IPA 3.6 £2.60 3
Greene King Abbot 5.0 £2.80 3
Ruddles Orchard 4.2 £2.80 3.5
